Lo que debes saber
REAL ID enforcement at TSA airport checkpoints began May 7, 2025. Since then, state-issued driver's licenses and IDs that are not REAL ID compliant are no longer accepted at airport security. A REAL ID-compliant license or ID is issued by your state's DMV, which sets its own appointment process on top of the federal minimum document standards. A valid U.S. passport or passport card also works in place of a REAL ID.
Qué llevar
- 1
Proof of identity and lawful status
Commonly a certified birth certificate, valid U.S. passport, or immigration document. Your state DMV sets the exact accepted list; check your state DMV's REAL ID checklist before your appointment.
- 2
Proof of your Social Security number
Commonly a Social Security card, W-2, or 1099. Confirm accepted documents with your state DMV.
- 3
Two proofs of current residency
Commonly a utility bill, bank statement, or lease. Confirm accepted documents with your state DMV.
Dónde solicitarlo
- En persona
REAL ID-compliant licenses and IDs are issued in person at your state's DMV, not by a federal agency. TSA's site links to every state DMV's own REAL ID page.
