What this notice usually means
A Housing Choice Voucher lets an approved family search for housing. Your housing authority issues it, Form HUD-52646, after approving your case. It has an expiration date to find a qualifying unit.
What to do now
- 1
Check the expiration date on your voucher
Your voucher lists the last day you can submit a unit for approval. Note that date first.
- 2
Search for a qualifying unit
Look for a unit that fits your voucher size and rent limits, and ask the landlord if they accept the program.
- 3
Submit the unit for approval through your housing authority
Your housing authority reviews the unit and rent first. Follow the steps in your voucher packet to move in.
- 4
Call your housing authority if you need more time
Call the number on your voucher if you need an extension or have questions about the search.
